Funeral services for Joshua Burton Nichols, 40, of Lake Charles, La., will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church with Father Tim Hurd officiating.  Burial will be held at Consolata Cemetery, Lake Charles, La. at 3 p.m.  Visitation will begin on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home, Many, La. A Cursillo rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Joshua Burton Nichols was born on Saturday, May 12, 1984 in Pasadena, Texas.  He passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024 in Venice, La.  

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his children; daughter, Brylee Nichols and son, Gatlin Nichols both of Alexandria, La.; son, Noah John Nichols of Lake Charles, La.,  and his fiancé, Lauren Stutes O’Neill and sons, Charles, Ezra and Jackson O’Neill of Lake Charles, La.; his parents, David and Tina Nichols of Many, La.; sister, Mary Jordan Foster and husband, Kyle, of Florien, La.; brothers, David Ray Nichols and wife, Megan, of Florien, La. and Billy Joe Nichols and wife, Heather, of Many, La.; best friend, Matt Killingsworth and wife, Cally, of Many, La.; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 

Pallbearers will be David R. Nichols, Billy Nichols, Kyle Foster, Matt Killingsworth, Alan Nichols, Brett Stutes, and Derek Stutes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brennan Stutes and Ty Sonnier.

Joshua was what every man should strive to become. He was a devote Catholic and loved his faith. Being a holy, strong, kind, loving, playful, talented man, he changed many people’s lives. He loved God, his fiancé, his children and family dearly. He learned how to create a beautiful family home from what his mother and father taught him. He embraced family more than anyone. He loved working outside in the garden and being with his family. He was admired for the love and respect he had for his father and adoration and love for his mother. He loved dancing and listening to music outside while he barbecued. He had a passion for being on the Toledo bend lake riding around and fishing from his boat and his dad’s pier. He also was a great hunter in his hometown, Many. They’d have some fun family fishing competitions with who could catch the most white perch. He was creative and would craft things out of wood and was an all-around handyman. He could literally do anything. He would always say, I haven’t done much of anything, after he had just cooked and cleaned the kitchen, or built a staircase by hand, played hours outside with his children, or climbed up a tree and cut limbs down, mowed three acres and then came inside to hang sheetrock and paint. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was a very humble man, living his life peaceful and prayerful. He was simple and cared for his family deeply. If he could have quit work to spend every single moment with his entire family every single day, he would have done that in a heartbeat. Anything he could do for someone he would do. We never had to ask, he would just do it. He led and guided those he loved to where we needed to be and we are always grateful. His work was done here and he is truly home now, with our Lord.
