Melba Cryer Stevison, 90, of Lake Charles passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 in her residence.
Mrs. Stevison was born on Oct. 17, 1933, in Rosepine, La. Raised in Cottonwood and a proud graduate of Evans High School, she moved to Lake Charles in 1952. Her professional journey began at Gulf National Bank, where she worked as a teller for 20 years. She later joined Money Lender Finance Company, from which she retired in 1992. In addition to her career, she was also a licensed notary. Throughout her life, Mrs. Stevison was a faithful member of First United Pentecostal Church of Lake Charles.
Her creativity was displayed through a vast array of hobbies which included embroidery, painting, crocheting, and sewing. She even served as a den mother for her boys during their cub scout days. However, it was her cake-making that was remarkable. Regardless of the occasion, her ability to produce a masterpiece was astounding. She delighted in pleasing people with her beautiful and delicious creations. In the latter years of her life, she passed the time by keeping up with the happenings of others through her “Facebook ministry”.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Greg Stevison of Moss Bluff, Susan Guy (Al) of Lake Charles, and Patrick Stevison (Trena) of Moss Bluff; a brother, Marvin Cryer (Anita) of Leesville; sister, Gerline Andrus (David) of Moss Bluff; grandchildren, Lee Stevison (Theresa), Tyler Stevison (Bridgette), Heath Stevison (Jessica), Amber Cook (Brad), Ashlee Guy, Alexis Flores (Arthur), and Andrea Stevison; and great-grandchildren, Eian, Owen, Liam, Asher, Saydee, Sophee, Ava, Amelia, Patson, Francesca, Violet, Maci, and Mia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alvis Stevison; her parents, Luther and Beulah Cryer; a brother, Lamar Cryer, and a daughter in law, Debbie Stevison.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at First United Pentecostal Church of Lake Charles. Burial took place in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Rene Rivers for providing remarkable care in the latter days of their mom’s life.
