Ewell Thomas Guidry

Ewell Thomas Guidry, age 91, native of Lafayette, La. passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

He retired from Consolidated Freightways as an accounts manager in 1988.  He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 2130.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Before moving from Lafayette to Lake Charles, he attended school at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral School.  In Lake Charles, he attended Central School, T.S. Cooley, and LaGrange High School.

After returning from military service, he attended business school and worked for Southern Pacific Freight.

Ewell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking outdoors, and listening and dancing to Cajun music.  He enjoyed annual reunions with his Marine buddies all over the country.

He was the father of Leonard (companion, Christine LeBleu), Russell, Warren, Quintin (Dawn), Alyson (fiancé, Chad Armentor), and Thomas II; grandfather of Clayton Guidry (Brandi), Alexis Fulmer (Gerrod), Brooke Guidry, Savannah Burnett (Clayton), Jake Guidry (Allison), Raegan Wyble, Sarah Guidry, Dakoda Guidry (Jacie), Cameron Guidry, Austin and Beau Dobson, and Haydon and Gavon Guidry; and great-grandfather to Vivienne and Liam Burnett, Eleanore and Hadley Guidry, Kallie LeJeune, Ella Fulmer, and Cooper Guidry.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Alice Matte Guidry; his youngest son, Thomas Ewell Guidry II; his parents, Thomas Ewell Guidry I and Gladys Bertrand Guidry; his brother, Harold Anthony Guidry Sr., and daughter-in-law, Tammy Schexnider Guidry.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.  Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m.  Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until leaving for the church at 9:30 a.m.  

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their compassion and care given to Mr. Guidry and his family.
