Earl James Young, 86, passed away on June 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 9, 1938, in Elton, La., to Wesley and Doris Trahan Young.
He loved the outdoors, canning, traveling, but most of all he loved to support his family. Earl was a warrior, protector with a heart of gold. He was known for his love and extensive work in his vegetable garden, his love for Cajun music and the preservation of Cajun heritage.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeRoy and Richard Young, and his two daughters, Kristy and Joan; son-in-law, Dennis Fleming, and grandson, Jordan Buller.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Juliana Davy Young; his children, Debra LeBlanc (Michael) of Lacassine, Loris Buller (Russ) of Westlake, Terry Roy of Dallas, Ga., Cindy Fleming of Kinston, Ala., Ricky Young (Kristie) of Moss Bluff, Kelly McCain (Jake) of Sweetlake, and Brent Young (Shelley) of Lake Charles. He was also the patriarch of 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in St. Margaret Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Monday evening, June 17, 2024, at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel and continue until leaving in procession to St. Margaret Catholic Church for the 10:30 a.m. funeral mass.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Unit 31 of Christus Ochsner St. Patrick’s Hospital, Amber Durio, R.N. and Heart of Hospice and particularly to Ralph Hays, N.P., who not only was his nurse for 20 years, but also his friend.
