George Vander Hey III

George Vander Hey III, 69, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, while vacationing with his wife and his granddaughter, whom he adored.
George was a 1972 graduate of Westlake High School, where he was a member of the Ram Band. He was a member of the Lake Charles and Sulphur Jay Cees and a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church. George retired from WR Grace in 2019 after 37 years of service. George was a true Sulphur High School supporter, he loved everything about the blue and gold. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and an incredible grandfather. George loved to cook for his family and looked forward to their Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations. George has left a legacy of volunteerism, instilling in his children the importance of community involvement.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Shelley Courville Vander Hey; son, Gabriel Vander Hey of New Orleans; daughter, Katie Baker (Wes) of Sulphur; son-in-law, John Adcock of Sulphur; grandchildren, Tatum Vander Hey and River Baker, and great granddaughter, Zhavia Baker. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Judy Haney of Lake Charles, Rita Williams of Mississippi; brother-in-law, Troy Courville (Vanessa) of Lake Charles; numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, George Joseph Vander Hey; parents, George Vander Hey Jr. and Kate Vander Hey; his in-laws, Herbert and Nelva Courville, and brother-in-law, Tony Courville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church. A burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery North in Sulphur. Father John Welch, M.S. will officiate. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2024, with a recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. and will resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. until time to leave for church at 12:30 p.m. Words of comfort and memories may be shared with the family at www.robisonfuneralhome.com.
