Cheryl Lynn (Rose) Junot, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at her home
in Iowa, Louisiana.
Cheryl was born on November 13, 1946, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas, to her
parents, James “Jimmy” and Mary Ann Rose, and was raised in Nederland, Texas alongside her
little sister, Lisa.
Cheryl was a proud graduate of the Nederland High School class of 1965, where she was an
active member of the marching band and National Honor Society.
It was her senior year of high school where Cheryl met George Junot, with whom she would fall
in love and eventually marry in 1967. Cheryl and George would go on to be married 56 years and
have three children – George Jr., Jennifer, and Benjamin.
During their marriage, George’s career with the Air Force would allow them to travel the world,
living on six different bases and three years spent living in England.
In 1988, George retired from the Air Force, and he and Cheryl brought the family to Sulphur,
Louisiana, where they would finally set some roots.
Cheryl was a highly devoted mother, always making sure to be there for her children to support
their Little League Games, band concerts and festivals, dance recitals, choir concerts and
festivals, piano & voice recitals, theatre shows, and was an active Girl Scout Troop Leader and
Boy Scout Den Mother. She continued that tradition of support with her grandson, Luke, often
attending his Little League Baseball games, and high school track meets and football games to
cheer him on.
As family was always very important to her, Cheryl actively traced family lineage through
genealogy, and in her spare time she enjoyed getting together as often as she could with her
classmates from Nederland High School to have a good time and reminisce.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, George Junot; daughter, Jennifer Junot Johnson (Jason) of
Iowa, LA; son, Benjamin Junot, of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Lisa Rose Horton (Dewain) of
Buda, TX, and Frankie Purkey Hornbuckle of St. Robert, MO; sister-in-law, Verdia Miller (Jim)

of Port Neches, TX; brother in law, Jerry Junot (Pat) of Athens, TX; grandson, Luke Johnson of
Iowa, LA; nephews, Kyle Horton (Roxanne) of Austin, TX, Kevin Horton (Judy) of New
Braunfels, TX, Lanny Goins of Mabank, TX; nieces, Brooke Junot Corcuera (Alex) of San
Diego, CA, and Alyssa Warrington (Bill) of St. Robert, MO; chosen daughters, Nancy Taulbee
Burnthorn and Jamie Batiste Dancy; treasured caregiver, Kris Caswell; and several great nieces
and nephews, cousins, and her sweet dog, Lily.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, James “Jimmy” Rose; mother, Mary Ann Rose-Purkey
(Holcombe); in-laws, Edward and Beatrice Junot; son, George E. Junot, Jr.; stepfather, Forrest
Shields Purkey; and brother, Eddie Purkey.
