Martha Ann Cooper

Martha Ann Cooper, 86, of DeQuincy, La. passed into the arms of her Savior on Monday, May 27, 2024. She was born to her late parents, G.O. and Viola Martin on Sept. 11, 1937 in Shreveport, La. She was a part of the General Federation of Women’s Club, where she was the State President from 2000-2002, member of the DeQuincy Study Club, past President of the DeQuincy Federated Service League, past President of the Contact Club, member of the Eastern Star Ada Chapter, and loved painting. One of her favorite past times was playing cards with her girlfriends. Martha was a school teacher for 32 years, where she made a difference in many young people’s lives. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in DeQuincy.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Bourgeois; son, Martin Powell, both of DeQuincy, La.; step-daughter, Kathryn Chitty McDannel of Bloomington, Ill.; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Martha is preceded in death by her husbands, Troy Cooper and Carlton Chitty; parents, G.O. and Viola Martin; and her brother, James O. Martin.
A Celebration of Martha’s life will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy, La. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 1 p.m., with Bro. Dwayne Hyatt officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy, La.
