Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into the evening hours across Southeast Texas and western sections of Louisiana.

National Weather Service Lake Charles meteorologist Andy Tingler said isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible as a combination of daytime heating and an upper-level disturbance overlap.

Tingler said damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats.

One to two inches of rainfall during a short period of time is also possible, which could lead to urban street flooding.

Tingler said elevated thunderstorm chances will linger through the weekend, with a slight risk of severe weather Friday as a complex of thunderstorms is expected to develop and move into the area from the west.

Highs the rest of the week are expected in the mid to upper-80s.
