Southwest Louisiana is heating up for Memorial Day weekend.
It is going to be hot and humid, said National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer on Friday. There is a possibility of triple-digit heat index values on Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoons.
“We know that a lot of people are going to be participating in outdoor activities, and it does appear as though we will have our first heat wave of the year.”
On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Southwest Louisiana will see Orange 2 Heat Risks. This level affects most people sensitive to heat, especially those with limited or no access to good cooling methods or proper hydration.
Parts of Central Louisiana are predicted to see Red 3 Heat Risk, which affects anyone without effective cooling methods or adequate hydration.
Temperatures are predicted to range from 88 to 93 degrees on Friday, 89 to 95 on Saturday and Sunday and 90 to 97 on Monday.
There is a zero percent chance of rain, and wind speeds are expected to be low.
It is important to take precautions out in the heat this holiday weekend, he said. Those that will be outdoors should drink plenty of water (even if they aren’t thirsty) and take frequent breaks from sun exposure by seeking shade or going indoors.
Children and pets should never by left unattended in vehicles
