Edward “E.L.” Lilton Louviere Jr

Edward Lilton “E.L.” Louviere Jr., 85, passed away quietly at hospital, surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 18, 2024, after a brief illness.
E.L. was born in Welsh La. He was the son of Edward Lilton Louviere Sr. and Louise LeBlanc Louviere. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI, now ULL). After graduation, he went to the United States Navy Officer Candidate School and became a naval pilot. He served aboard the naval aircraft carriers U.S.S. Randolph and U.S.S. Essex as a submarine hunter in the VS-34 squadron (the “Proud Tigers”). After his service, he returned to live and raise a family in Welsh and began his long career as an agricultural pilot. He often said that he was lucky to have a job he enjoyed. He played football, basketball, and baseball in high school, and his love of sports continued the rest of his life. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, and was an avid reader. He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh and was active in the Knights of Columbus for many years. He moved to Lafayette several years ago to be closer to family.
E.L. is survived by his children, Steven Louviere of Pensacola Fla., Lisa Rios (Edgar) of Lafayette, and Amy Dinnat (Dustin) of Lafayette; four grandsons, Seth Rios (Elisha), Antonio Rios, Caleb Dinnat, and Lucas Dinnat; and one great-grandson, Ethan Edward Rios. He is also survived by a brother, John Louviere (Barbara) of Alexandria; a sister, Mary Anne Whipple of Lafayette; nieces and nephews, and longtime friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Broussard Louviere; his parents; his sister, Patricia, and his infant brother, Pierre.
A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church (415 Robley Dr, Lafayette) at 11 a.m. (preceded by a 10:30 a.m. rosary), Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
