Lethia “Claudette” Perry, 87, of Sulphur, La., surrounded by her family, passed peacefully from this world to her heavenly home on May 21, 2024. She was born on Aug. 1, 1936, to Claude Coffey, and Doris Melder Coffey. Claudette grew up in Forest Hill, La., moved to Sulphur, where she met and married the love of her life, Gerald Perry. Together, they raised four children, who they loved beyond measure. If you ever met Claudette, you knew how much she loved Jesus, and she’d ask if you knew Him too. Claudette was a member of Houston River Baptist Church, where she was in WMU/WOM, sang in the choir, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Claudette was one of the founders of the Sulphur Mines Festival. Claudette enjoyed her work as activities director at High Hope Care Center in it’s early years. 

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Barbara) Perry, Reed (Lori) Perry, Lisa (Pete) Adams, and David (Lisa) Perry; grandchildren, Justin Perry, Allison LeMaire, Jesse Perry, Jake Perry, Nevaeh Perry, Laura Funderburk, Katherine Adams, Joseph Perry, and Elizabeth Perry; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dolores Barkley, Inez Graham, Joni Koonce, and Jane Braud, along with numerous nieces and nephews that she loved.

Claudette is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Perry; granddaughter, Julie Perry; siblings, Bobby Coffey, Carl Coffey, and Debra Benoit. 

Pallbearers will be Justin Perry, Jesse Perry, Jake Perry, Joseph Perry, Paul Fugatt, and Doug Barkley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Sam and Ethan Funderburk.

A Celebration of Claudette’s life will be held at Houston River Baptist Church in Sulphur, La. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Lonnie Gothrup officiating. Visitation will be at Houston River Baptist Church on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery North in Sulphur, La. 

In lieu of flowers, Claudette’s wishes were that donations be made to Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, La., Samaritan’s Purse, or the McNeese State University Gerald and Claudette Perry Family Scholarship for Agriculture and Business.

The family wants to say a special thanks to Stonebridge Assisted Living, Dr. Brian Clements, her “Medical quarterback for decades”, Brighton Bridge Hospice, along with her caregivers, Becky Lemke, Kimikko, Kassie, Christi, and Kaitlyn Batiste.
