On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the world said goodbye to a beloved soul, Julius C. Ardoin, of Basile. His departure at the age of 90 from Opelousas General Hospital has left a void in the hearts of many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held his honor at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile, followed by entombment at the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Kennan Brown as Celebrant.
Julius, fondly known as “Knot,” was born on July 22, 1933, to Jimmie and Anna Bertrand Ardoin. He was a distinguished graduate of Basile High School, Southwest Louisiana Institute and Stephen F. Austin with a +30 master’s degree. After proudly serving in the United States Army, Julius dedicated over 40 years to the Evangeline and Jeff Davis School Boards as a classroom educator and supervisor.
Renowned for his warm and welcoming demeanor, Julius cherished daily conversations over biscuits and coffee with family and friends. His love extended to nature through gardening and animals, especially his cherished companion, Betsy, a Great Pyrenees. Among his memorable sayings were, “You gotta eat something,” “Want some coffee,” and, “When you coming back?”
Julius is survived by his three sons, Dwain Ardoin (Carla Esters) of Ragley, Jimmy Ardoin (Karen) of Vidrine, and Troy Ardoin (Stefanie) of Katy, Texas. His grandchildren, Nickolas Ardoin, Zackary Ardoin, Gage Ardoin, Wyatt Ardoin, Rainee Ardoin, and Briggs Ardoin brought immense joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Louviere Ardoin; son, Keith Ardoin; parents, Jimmie and Anna Bertrand Ardoin, and siblings, Hadley Ardoin, Hattie Bushnell, Edith Sonnier, Milton Ardoin, Isabelle Duplechin, and Thilman Ardoin.
The family will receive condolences during visitation at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile on Monday, May 13 from 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 14 from 8 a.m. until the commencement of services. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening.
