Melvin Paul Guidry Sr., age 85, of Lake Charles, La. passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024. Melvin was born on March 10, 1939 in Kaplan, La. to Theophile and Lucille Guidry. 

Melvin worked for Borden’s for 25 years and Billy’s Boudin Hut for over 10 years. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jane Crader Guidry; grandchildren, Gabriel Guidry and Jacob Smith; his parents, and two sisters, Mary Snatic and Patricia McBride.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Sabina Henry of Boise, Idaho; son, Paul Guidry Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Vinton; son, Terry Guidry and Francine; daughter, Edna Guidry McDaniel and husband, Dwayne; son, Stephen Guidry and wife, Veronica, and son, Donnie Guidry and Jennifer all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Courtney Newman, Christie Guidry, Josh McDaniel, Sadie McGuire, Lauren Guidry, Bryce Guidry, Gavin Guidry, Gabrielle Guidry, Cody Bass, Casey Bertrand, Thomas, Wesley, and Cody Smith; a sister, Judy Vincent of Lake Charles; 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to the staff at Calcasieu Community Care Center and Heart of Hospice for their wonderful care given to Melvin and his family during this difficult time. 

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. and visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon on Friday, May 3, 2024 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles with Rev. Nathan Long officiating. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Hixson Funeral Home.
