Windy conditions are expected across Southwest Louisiana today and into the weekend, followed by the potential for some heavy rainfall late Sunday into Monday.
The National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office said sustained south-to-southeast winds will be 15 to 20 mph with gusts around 30 mph today, increasing over the weekend with sustained winds between 20-25 mph with gusts between 30-40 mph.
These very breezy south winds will allow tides along the coast to increase, which may lead to coastal flooding during the high tides on Saturday and Sunday morning.
The agency said a frontal system will stall to the north late in the weekend and clash with the very warm and moist air to produce a chance for thunderstorms on late Sunday into Monday. These thunderstorms will have the potential to produce high rainfall rates over a location for a prolonged period of time.
