Mary Margaret David

Mary Margaret David passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024 at a local hospice facility after a long illness. Mary Margaret was born Nov. 22, 1949 in Lake Charles to Evans and Elise David.
She grew up in Sulphur and attended Our Lady’s School, W.W. Lewis and graduated from Sulphur High in 1967. She furthered her education at McNeese State University, where she received a B.A. in Education, a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and an Education Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision. Mary Margaret taught special education one year in Jeff Davis Parish and taught Early Childhood education for 30 years in Calcasieu Parish Schools.
Mary Margaret was involved in many organizations that promoted education and helped with educator rights. She was a member of Calcasieu Association of Educators, Louisiana Association of Educators, and the National Education Association. She attended many national conventions, representing Calcasieu Parish and Louisiana. After retirement, she joined Calcasieu Cameron Retired Teachers and Louisiana Retired Teachers. She served on the board of directors of Calcasieu and Cameron Retired teachers and served as President.
Mary Margaret was a long time member of Kappa Kappa Iota National organization for educators. She served her local chapter, Alpha Rho and the state chapter, Eta State. She was a state president and enjoyed traveling to many national conventions for Kappa.
Mary Margaret was a devout Catholic and prayed adoration at Our Lady Queen of Heaven every Monday for several years. She was also a member of Theresians, a Catholic organization for women. She was a loyal friend and always willing to help others.
Mary Margaret leaves behind numerous cousins and friends to mourn her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gayle and her infant son.
