Our family lost our beloved mother, Louise Theresa (Crochet) Doty, on March 1, 2024 when she joined her Heavenly Father. She was 93, living in Sulphur, La. She was born in Baker, La. on July 5, 1930 to Caldon and Mary Crochet.

Louise “Mom”, as we were so blessed to call her, married the love of her life, Homer Charles Doty Jr. in 1948, and they became parents to seven children. Mom and Dad were married close to 71 years and were a beautiful model of love and commitment. Mom was blessed to have been able to live in her own home with her daughter, Debbie Cook, living with her for the last four years.

Mom was passionate about her family, loving deeply each and every one of us, her grandchildren, and our spouses, whom she also called her kids. She has devoted her life to her great faith and to family. It was part of Mom’s every day to pray a rosary for her family. For many years, Mom was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, taking Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. She served for several years as a bookkeeper for the church. She also worked at Olin Chemical as an accountant for many years. Her hobbies, over the years, included bowling, camping/traveling, sewing, dancing, bridge, canasta, reading, gardening, watching Hallmark movies, playing Mahjong, and taking special care of her cat, Bonnie. Having a beautifully set table was always very important to Mom when she served anyone a meal.

Mom is survived by seven children, Homer (Rosie) Doty III of Lake Charles, Rhonda Sue (Frank) Doty Nance of Wimberley, Texas, Debbie Doty Cook of Sulphur, Patricia (Don) Doty Rougeau of Katy, Texas, Michael (Debbie) Doty of Ragley, David (Becky) Doty of Hathaway, and Robert (Gloria) Doty of Sulphur; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanine Perry of The Woodlands, Texas and Billie Kuehn of Lake Charles, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mom is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Mary (Buddy) Rasberry.

“God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree, the warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea, the generous soul of nature, the comforting arm of night, the wisdom of ages, and the power of the eagle’s flight. Then, God combined these qualities; there was nothing more to add. His masterpiece was now complete. He lovingly called her Louise.”

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Hixson Funeral Home in Sulphur, La. from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Father Tim Goodly at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles. Please join us for a reception to celebrate Mom’s life in the Reception Hall at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur immediately following the interment.

We would like to thank our families, friends, Father Tim Goodly and other clergy, Debi Comboy, who brought Mom Holy Communion every week, Cal-Cam Hospital staff, and our various communities for the outpouring of love shown and for the many prayers said for our precious mother. She was a gift from God to us, a blessing so gracious and selfless. Rest in His peace, sweet Momma.
