Arthur Joseph Chonko

Arthur Joseph Chonko, 92, of Moss Bluff passed away Feb. 19, 2024 at a local hospital with his sons by his side.
Art was born March 22, 1931 to Joseph Chonko and Margaret Kovach Chonko and raised in Lorain, Ohio. After college, he joined the US Air Force and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as a flight navigator. While stationed at Chenault Air Force base in Lake Charles, he met Margaret Hopkins working behind the perfume counter at Mullers Department store. They were married on Sept. 14, 1956. They were married until her passing in 2012.
After working in local industry, he retired from Westlake in 2000 as a piping designer. Art enjoyed gardening, yard work and going out to eat. He was also a talented artist.
He is survived by his sons, Gary Chonko (Donielle) and Randy Chonko (Lorrie) both of Moss Bluff; five grandchildren, Chelsie Billings (Ryan) of League City, Texas, Zachary, Sam, Riley, and Jason Chonko all of Moss Bluff and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Chonko. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. As per Mr. Chonko’s wishes, there will be a private family memorial service on Friday Feb. 23, 2024.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
