Chennault has been awarded a $2.5 million federal grant for expansion of its fire-suppression capacity to support business growth.
The project will be matched with $2.3 million in local funds, and is expected to create and retain more than 1,200 jobs and generate $5.9 million in private investment, according to the U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration.
Chennault Executive Director Kevin Melton welcomed the news.
“This represents a very significant opportunity for the airport, community and state, as it is part of Chennault’s $40 million-plus strategic plan to build resilient infrastructure so that we can build even more job opportunities for this region,” he said.
The funding is from the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023.
The announcement was made Tuesday.
