DeQuincy senior wins scholarship
PINEVILLE — Twenty-five high school seniors competed in Saturday’s Annual Smith Scholarship Competition at Louisiana Christian University.
To participate, each student must have earned 28 or higher on the ACT and submit a portfolio that contains past awards, recognitions, and accomplishments; two letters of recommendation; and an essay explaining the major features of a Christian Liberal Arts education.
Jeri Vigé, from DeQuincy High School, was named the 2024 Smith Scholar. She plans to study biology.
Vigé will receive a four-year full tuition, room and board scholarship.
The Smith Scholarship was founded in the early 1970s by an endowment donation from Tom and Beverly Durham to honor Beverly Durham’s mother, Elizabeth Smith.
Five named to chancellor’s list
UNIVERSITY, Miss. — The University of Mississippi has announced students named to the fall 2023 chancellor’s honor roll.
Local students include Jenna Lewis of Lake Charles majoring in Forensic Chemistry; Annabel Keers of Sulphur, majoring in biological science; Olivia Reeves of Sulphur, majoring in integrated marketing communications; Alyssa Morton of Lake Charles, LA, majoring in psychology; and Emma Freeman of Lake Charles, majoring in electrical engineering.
The chancellor’s honor roll is reserved for students who earn a semester grade-point average of 3.75-4.0.
Gasaway named to dean’s list
MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Jada Brooke Gasaway earned a 3.5 grade-point average or higher in the fall 2023 semester, securing a reputable position on Southern Arkansas University’s Dean’s List.
Gasaway is a senior industrial technology major from Westlake.
Marque named to president’s list
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Evan Marque of Lake Charles has been named to the College of Charleston fall 2023 president’s list.
To qualify for the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.80 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Marque is majoring in biology.
Two honored by Miss. State
MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. — More than 4,500 students were named to the fall 2023 president’s list at Mississippi State University — including Ella Kuhne and Emily McMillin, both of Lake Charles.
Students on the president’s list at Mississippi State achieved a 3.80 or better grade-point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.
