Three SW La. legislators to chair House committees

Three Southwest Louisiana legislators have been named chairmen of committees in the state House of Representatives. Sen. Mike Reese, R-Leesville, has been named chairman of the Senate Judiciary B Committee.
Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier, R-Eunice, said the list of chairs includes 14 Republican leaders and two Democrats. Senate President Cameron Henry, R-Metairie, said his chairmen include 14 Republicans and 3 Democrats.
DeViller said, “After meeting with members of the House, as well as the governor, we have selected a group of chairs who can help to advance the priorities of the people of Louisiana and unify our body so they remain focused on what will move our state forward.”
In a House news release, DeVillier added, “To give people the tools they need to thrive, we have to work together, find common ground and understanding, and advance common sense solutions. This team of leaders is ready and capable of serving in these important roles.”
Rep. Ryan Bourriaque, R-Grand Lake, is chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Rep. Brett Geymann, R-Moss Bluff, is chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee. Troy Romero, R-Jennings, is chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.
Reps. Chuck Owen, R-Rosepine, Dewith Carrier, R-Oakdale, and Romero are members of the House Appropriations Committee.
Reps. Rodney Schamerhorn, R-Hornbeck, and Phillip Tarver, R-Lake Charles, are members of the House Transportation Committee.
Rep. Les Farnum, R-Sulphur, is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Reps. Wilford Carter, D-Lake Charles, Schamerhorn, and Farnum are members of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Owen and Tarver are members of the House Education Committee. Carrier is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee. Schamerhorn is a member of the House Agriculture Committee.
Carter is a member of the House Judiciary Committee. Tarver is a member of the House Labor and Industrial Committee. Owen and Farnum are members of the House Municipal Committee. Carrier is a member of the House Retirement Committee.
DeVillier said, “In making selections for committee membership the focus was fitting representatives’ expertise and interests where they could best be utilized. We’re happy that each region of the state is well represented and House members are eager to get to work removing barriers, creating opportunities, and growing the state’s future. This lineup of committees will definitely get us there.”
Sen. Mark Abraham, R-Lake Charles, is on the Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs Committee, the Judiciary C Committee and the Senate Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee.
Sen. Jeremy Stine is on the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Environmental Committee and the Senate Labor and Industrial Committee.
Sen. Reese is also on the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee and the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Sen. Heather Cloud, R-Turkey Creek, who represents Allen Parish, is on the Senate Judiciary C Committee, the Senate Transportation Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Health and Welfare Committee.
