Marie Calloura Ryan, 89, passed away peacefully at her residence in Ramer, Ala. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.
Marie was born in Lake Charles, La. on March 16, 1934. She was a 1952 graduate of LaGrange High School. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Bennie Ryan. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sherrif Department as the Operator of Tax Division for 17 years.
In 1980 Marie accompanied her husband overseas to Scotland when his company transferred him to oversee oil drilling sales in Europe and the North Sea. She enjoyed her time in Scotland and fondly reminisced about their travels and social life with friends they made during their time there.
Marie loved hosting parties and entertaining. Her passion for cooking was well known both within her family and the community. She loved flowers and had a gift for growing them. Her greatest passion, however, was her family. She is survived by her two children; son, Dr. Patrick Ryan (Susan); and daughter, Kathleen Ryan Hagan; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and brother, Frank Calloura (Myrna). She was affectionately known as Mawmaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Ryan; her parents, Sam and Katherine Abate Calloura; and her sister, Camille Cormie.
Pallbearers are Jim Knipe, Remy Miller, Steven Bordelon, Mitchell Clemmons, Miller Clemmons, Chris Cagle, and Frank Abate. Honorary pallbearers: Sam Ange, Willie Moreno, Shawn Ryan, and Christopher Ryan.
