Dempsey W. “Man” Gearen Sr., 96, of DeQuincy, La. passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023 in Waller, Texas. He was born to his late parents, Pearl and Hattie Gearen on Nov. 27, 1927 in DeQuincy, La. He was a proud patriot of his country, serving in World War II in the United States Navy onboard the USS Maddox. Dempsey was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a lifelong Baptist. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. Dempsey was truly a social butterfly and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his son, Dempsey W. Gearen Jr. and wife, Charnell, of Waller, Texas; one sister, Dea Ann Nix of DeQuincy, La.; grandson, James Dugas and wife, Paj, of DeQuincy, La.; three great-grandchildren, Dalton, Faron, and Brendon, along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dempsey is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gearen; two children, Darlynn “Lyn” Dugas and Randy Wayne Gearen, and numerous brothers and sisters.
A Graveside Celebration of Dempsey’s life will be held at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy, La. on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Brad Johnson officiating.
