Shelton Lamar Weaver

 Shelton Lamar Weaver, 83, passed away on Dec. 30, 2023, at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home located in Jennings, La. 

Mr. Weaver was born on July 8, 1940, in Lake Charles, La., to John and Evia White Weaver. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy. He served his country From November 1958 through December 1962, and was stationed on the USS Gunston Hall during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an operator at Homco International where he retired after many years of service. Mr. Weaver had a passion for music, played the guitar, and loved entertaining. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved making trinkets and gifts for his family and friends. 

Those left to cherish his memory are Mary Coleman Weaver, with whom he was married nearly 50 years and mother of their children, Mike Weaver and wife, Crystal, of DeQuincy, La., Liz Van Cleve and husband, Tim, of Kingwood, Texas, Cassie Weaver of Kingwood, Texas and Greg Weaver and wife, Delaine, of Lake Charles, La.; grandchildren, Tyler Weaver, Hollie Weaver Ellender, Gabe Johnston, Grant Weaver, Aaron Van Cleve, Jeff Van Cleve, Lauren Van Cleve, and Juliana Van Cleve; brother, Louis E. Weaver; 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Evia Weaver; sister, Shirley Ruth Martin; and brothers, John D. Weaver, Charles J. Weaver, Joe A. Weaver, and Morris K. Weaver. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Lake Charles, La. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service led Rev. Brent Keating assisted by Rev. Chuck Huddleston, beginning at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home Lake Charles, La. Burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
