Early signing day for Division I football recruits starts today, but Iowa High School got the party started a little early.
With school out today for the Christmas holiday, Iowa’s Luke Guillory and Damian Reed signed their national letters of intent Tuesday morning.
Guillory, who is a 4.0 student with a 35 on the ACT, signed with the Air Force Academy.
“Their education is awesome,” Guillory said. “They really set you up for the future after. A lot of times when you go to college, you don’t know where you are going to be able to get a job. The Air Force guarantees you one.”
Guillory, who plans to study engineering, will be required to serve at least five years of active duty and three years as an inactive reserve after graduation. The 6-3, 220-pound, tight end caught 36 passes for 420 yards and six touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets won their second consecutive District 3-3A championship.
Reed, a 6-2, 275-pound, offensive guard, signed with Southeastern Louisiana in the Southland Conference. He plans to major in business or engineering.
“It just felt like home more than the other schools,” Reed said. “They brought me in and showed me everything. I just loved it from the start. I like just pulling and hitting people wherever I can.”
The duo helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the Nonselect Division II quarterfinals this season and the semifinals last season, winning 20 games.
“It was great,” Reed said. “The atmosphere over here is great. I just love the family bond that we have over here.”
“All these guys, I love them like family,” Guillory said of the Iowa football program.
