Carl Cascio

Carl Cascio entered the gates of Heaven on Dec. 16, 2023 and now patrols the streets of gold.

Carl was born on July 2, 1947 in Lake Charles, La. and was raised by his father, Carl Cascio Sr., who retired after 39 years as Lake Charles Assistant Fire Chief and his mother, Birdie Lorene Williams Cascio, who worked as a telephone operator.  They inspired his love for Lake Charles and for helping others.

Carl was a 1965 graduate of LaGrange High School and attended McNeese State University.  At the tender age of 22, he joined the Lake Charles Police Department where he worked in almost every division, including motorcycle, I.D. (evidence, fingerprinting, photography), patrol, community policing, accreditation and administration.  He worked alongside Chief Don Dixon and in 1987 he was named supervisor of the year.  LCPD is where he met his lifelong “police family” who he dearly cherished and who rushed to his side when illness struck.  When he began his career, there were only three patrol cars to cover North, Central and South Lake Charles.  He marveled at how the LCPD had grown over the decades.  He was selfless and served our community for over 41 years, retiring in 2011 with the rank of Major.  Following retirement, he joined the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and served for another six years as a funeral escort.  He truly lived the motto of “protect and serve”.

Survivors left to celebrate his life include his wife, Selina; daughter, Kimberly Marie Cascio of Lake Charles, and a son, Casey Jonathan Cascio (Aurelie) of Wilmington, N.C.  Survivors in his heart, who were like daughters, include Maria Elena McLendon Thompson of Evansville, Ind. and Ashlynn Nichole Johnson of Lake Charles.

The celebration of Carl’s homecoming will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  The Rev. Steve James will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until the start of the service.
