Severe storms are in Saturday’s forecast for Southwest Louisiana with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible.

Doug Cramer, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office, said there is between a 15 and 29 percent chance for the line of thunderstorms to impact the region.

Widespread rainfall amounts are likely to range from 0.50 inch to 1.00 inch, he said, with the storms expected to arrive late Saturday afternoon into early evening.

Strong northwest wind gusts up to 40 knots will be possible over the near shore and outer waters, Cramer said.

“High seas are likely with these winds with larger-than-normal wave heights,” he said.

Due to the chance of inclement weather the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s annual Anti-Bullying Walk has been cancelled and the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana’s annual fireworks display has been moved to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
