Pansy Goodeaux Skipper

Pansy Goodeaux Skipper, 91, of Lake Charles, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 in the comfort of her home.

 Mrs. Skipper was born on March 8, 1932 in DeRidder where she was raised and graduated from DeRidder High School.  She married Bobby Jo Skipper in 1952, and they moved to Lake Charles in the mid 1950’s.  She graduated from McNeese State University, where she would go on to earn a masters degree in education, at the age of 50. Her career was dedicated to teaching special needs children in Calcasieu Parish.  Mrs. Skipper was recognized by Pearl Watson Elementary School for her 33 year dedication to teaching there. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

 Mrs. Skipper was just as dedicated to serving the special needs community in southwest Louisiana.  Mrs. Skipper coached in the Special Olympics for more than 50 years, and in 2009 she was the recipient of the Southwest Area Special Olympics Coach of the Year.  She was also the President of the Calcasieu/Cameron Association for Persons with Orthopedic Disabilities and served on the board with CARC for many years.

 Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David Gene Skipper of Lake Charles; grandson, Robert Joseph Skipper of Baton Rouge; brother, W.D. Goodeaux of DeRidder; sister, Glenda Arlene Hurley of Fla., and special nieces, Carla Cooley of DeRidder and Denise Goodeaux of Lake Charles.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bobby Jo Skipper; a son, Dr. Randal Willie Skipper, and her parents, Charlotte and Willie Goodeaux.

 A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel with Rev. Tim Bergen officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in Hopewell Cemetery in DeRidder.  Visitation will begin on Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
