UPDATE: Victim, alleged shooter ID’d in Carlyss shooting

A 22-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with Monday’s shooting at a Carlyss mobile home.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said deputies responding to the scene located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds at at a trailer off of La. 27.

One of the victims — Cole A. Sandifer, 39, of Sulphur — was located deceased inside the home, Vincent said. The other victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries, and is in serious condition.

Vincent said the suspect, Jonathan J. Waite, fled the scene on foot.

“Deputies set up a perimeter and at approximately 4:50 p.m. Waite was located and taken into custody,” Vincent said.

He has been charged with second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a firearm. Hig bond is still pending.
