Dolores Rose DeRouen

Dolores Rose Derouen, age 85, of Welsh, La. went home to be with her God on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023.

Dolores was born in Welsh, La., to parents Elmer and Dorothea Walker on Aug. 30th, 1938. 

She was a member of the Welsh Book Club, Friends of the Welsh Museum, and the Welsh Quilting group. She was awarded Welsh Citizen of the Year for sewing and donating over 1,000 masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was a professional seamstress for multiple organizations and for the community she lived in. She made and donated over 100 quilted coasters throughout the town of Welsh.  Dolores, being an expert seamstress, was always willing to share her sewing knowledge with young women in town who wanted to learn.

She was known to her family as a very strong woman who passed those traits on to her children. 

Dolores was a member and Catholic Daughter at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Welsh, LA.

She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, Arthur James Derouen; parents; son, Arthur J. Derouen Jr.; brother, Samuel “Buddy” Walker; son-in-law, Robert Romero; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, as well as her dear best friend, Louise Delome. 

Dolores’ memory will be fondly cherished by her children, Andre Joseph (Leona) Derouen of Welsh, La., Debra (Tony) Trahan of Carlyss, La., Tammy Romero of Carlyss, La., Melissa (Roland) Landry of Welsh, La., Melinda (Tom) Vining of Gonzales, La., and Danielle (Keith) Price of Hathaway, La.; sister, Ruth Mae Mayson of Houston, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Golden Age of Welsh for their care of Dolores. 

A visitation will be held for Dolores on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Hixson Welsh beginning at 10 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m., and a Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30p.m.                                           

Burial will follow at Bon Pasteur Cemetery in Welsh, La. 

The family would like to invite friends and family to the Daigle Center in Welsh, La., following services for fellowship.
