Allen Parish voters approved a property tax renewal Saturday for courthouse and jail maintenance while voters in Reeves approved the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Voters approved a 4-mill, 10-year property tax for courthouse and jail maintenance by a vote of 2,527 for and 1,668 against, or 60 percent in favor. The tax will generate $516,200 annually for upkeep of both facilities.

Results are complete but unofficial from the secretary of state.

Reeves voters also approved a series of propositions to allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

The first proposition that would allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages with six percent alcohol or less (low content) by package only to be consumed off the premises, passed by a 58 – 18 vote, or 76 percent for it and 24 against the issue.

The second proposition that would allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages with six percent of less (low content) to be consumed on the premise, passed by a 49 – 26 vote, or 65 percent for it and 35 against the issue.

The third proposition to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages containing one-half of one-percent of one percent alcohol and above for the consumption on the premises, passed by a 46 – 29 vote, or 61 percent for it and 39 against the issue.

The fourth proposition to allow for sale of alcoholic beverages with one-half of one percent alcohol or above  by package only and not for consumption on the premises, passed by a 56 – 18 vote, or 76  percent for it and 24 against the issue.

The fifth proposition to allow  for sale of high and low alcoholic beverages in restaurants which have been issued an “R” permit as defined by law by the village of Reeves, passed by a 52 – 23 vote, or 69 percent for it and 31 against the issue.

Incumbent Police Juror Ruffin George Jr. retained his District 1 on the police jury with 164 votes, or 60 percent over challengers Charles Gosey who received 59 votes, or 22 percent and David E. Allison who got 51 votes or 19 percent and

For District 3 police juror, voters favored Adam Hussong, who got 373 votes, or 67 percent over Ervin Willis with 186 votes or 33 percent.

In District 4, Joe Perkins will be in a runoff election with Robert Neil Cole after Perkins garnered 257 votes or 41 percent over Cole who got 211 votes, or 34 percent. A third candidate Glen Jeffrey Bruce got 152 votes, or 25 percent.

In District 5, voters re-elected Tony Hebert by a vote of 412, or 69 percent over Leonard Duplechain who received 184 votes, or 31 percent of the vote.

In District 7, Chad Sanders won with 407 votes, or 63 percent, defeating challenger Leonard Pitre, who received 231 votes or 37 percent.

In District 8, Roland Hollins won with 523 votes, or 83 percent, over Jesse Gonzales who received 108 votes, or 17 percent.

Voters also supported Stacey Melerine  in the race for the District 7 seat on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In other statewide races, voters favored Jeff Landry for governor; William “Billy” Nungesser for lieutenant governor; Mike Francis for secretary of state; Liz Baker Merrill for attorney general and John Fleming for state treasurer.

Voters also favored all four constitutional amendments.
