Eunice B. Dent

Eunice B. Dent was born on Oct. 15, 1934 in Lakeland, Fla. to Lillian McCray Robinson and Rayford Robinson Sr.
Eunice relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y. where she met the love of her life, Frederick Walter Dent II. Eunice graduated Magna Cum Laude from Medgar Evers College on Aug. 31, 1975 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education after working in the school system as a Corrective Reading professional for several years. She received her Master’s of Education from McNeese State University in 1982.
Eunice and Frederick relocated to Lake Charles, La. in 1978 for work obligations and have since called Lake Charles home. Eunice was a member of Church of the Good Shepard with her husband, Frederick. She taught at Molo Middle School from 1978 until 2012 when she retired from the public school system but, continued to tutor and substitute for years to come. As an educator, Eunice believed that everyone should have access to education and taught adult education at night at Molo Middle School, as well as, teaching adult education classes at CINC halfway house. Throughout her life, Eunice received many awards for education including; Molo Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1994 and 2003, being nominated for both the Parish and State Teacher of the Year in 1994. In 2007, Eunice was honored by Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. as an Unsung Sheroe.
Eunice believed in service to others and was involved in many civic organizations and groups including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Zeta Psi Omega Chapter), The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Recycling, and the Personnel Board for the City of Lake Charles in which she served for both Mayors, Willie Mount and Randy Roach. Besides service to others, Eunice had a passion for fashion and was a avid reader.
Eunice is preceded in death by her mother, Lillian McCray Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), brothers, Rayford Robinson Jr. (San Jose, Calif.), Phelix Robinson (Manhattan, N.Y.), and Jim Robinson (Manhattan, N.Y.), and her children, Albert Simmons (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Felicia Simmons (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Michael Simmons (Lake Charles, La.), and Janice Babineaux (Lake Charles, La.).
Eunice leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Frederick Walter Dent II; daughters, Gail Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Cynthia Lewis (Queens, N.Y.), Sandra Ashley (Brookyn, N.Y.), Tasha Guidry (Lake Charles, La.), and Nikki Simmons (Lake Charles, La.), as well as, a host of family, grandkids, great-grand kids, friends and loved ones.
Although, the body of Eunice has transitioned, her love is everlasting and her legacy will continue through her work, her family, and the many lives that she touched through education.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 7, 2023 at the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mitzi George and assisted by Reverend Frances “Boo” Kay. Entombment will follow services at Consolata Cemetery.
