LCPD makes arrest in theft investigation

Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department have arrested a 70-year-old maintenance employee for burglarizing a home in the 5800 block of Gray Market Drive multiple times, stealing jewelry from the residence.

Deputy Chief F. Fondel said detectives were able to link three cases at the same location and identified 70-year-old John Leslie Sons of Sulphur as having access to the residential areas.

“Detectives linked the suspect to several recently pawned jewelry and equipment items at pawnshops in the areas of Orange, Vidor and Beaumont, Texas,” Fondel said. “Detectives recovered a number of pieces of jewelry.”

Fondel said an arrest warrant was obtained Friday, Sept. 15, for one count of theft between $5,000, but less than $25,000. Judge Robert Wyatt signed this warrant, issuing a bond of $15,000.

Sons was arrested Monday, Sept. 18,  and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on this charge. He later bonded out.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, a second arrest warrant was obtained for an additional count of theft between $5,000, but less than $25,000. Judge Tony Fazzio signed this warrant, issuing a bond of $17,500.

Sons was arrested in the 5800 block of Gray Market Drive later that day  following an interview with detectives. He was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The Louisiana State Police assisted Lead Det/ Sgt. Kirt Farquhar in this investigation.
