Randall Ogilvie Fear, of Welsh, La., passed away surrounded by loved ones at his residence on Sept. 11, 2023.
The passing of Randall Ogilvie Fear is very sad, but we understand he was tired and ready to go see Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. Randy was the love of his wife’s life and his light still shines bright. The memories are all we have to share and comfort us and although he is no longer with us, we will always feel his love.
Randy was born on October 26, 1956, to Truman and Betty Ogilvie Fear. He graduated from Welsh High School and farmed the family farm with his father and brother for many years. He was a caregiver for his father and upon his passing, he returned to school and graduated from Sowela Technical Community College with a degree in Culinary Arts. He worked both in restaurants and the dietary department of medical facilities, wrapping up his career at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home where he will always be remembered for his shrimp and grits. Randy loved to cook for family and friends, always remembering to bring a dish or two when a family’s loved one passed away.
We have never met anyone who had a cross word to say about Randy, as he was a compassionate and kind person who always allowed everyone to be themselves. He is a champion of the other guy, never himself.
His compassion and kindness shone brightest through his love of animals. From a young age, he always loved them and some of his best memories were about his enjoyment of showing his sheep. Randy was truly an animal whisperer, roaming the pastures, looking for animals in need.
Randy is survived by the love of his life, Laurie Hebert Fear, and his very special fur baby, Baxter. Also left to cherish the memories are his only brother, Jay Fear (Teri), and his three sisters, Marian Dameier (Brian), Hope Shaw (Billy), and Jeannie Quirk (Leo). While Laurie and Randy never had children of their own, he had several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh beginning at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 8 a.m. until the procession leaves for the church at 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. James McNally and his staff, the staff of Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Jennings, and the excellent staff of Hospice of Acadiana.
