The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said a suspect wanted in an ongoing narcotics operation is accused of tossing what is believed to be illegal narcotics out of a vehicle window while fleeing authorities on Interstate 10.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force were conducting an ongoing narcotics investigation Monday afternoon when they recovered two pill presses that could be used to manufacture fentanyl tablets.

Vincent said deputies had enough probable cause to make a traffic stop when the suspect in the narcotics investigation was seen leaving a house that was being surveilled.

She said as deputies tried to make the traffic stop, the suspect fled and began tossing what deputies believe to be illegal narcotics out the window before crashing the vehicle near Mile Marker 8 on I-10.

“The investigation is in the preliminary stages and there is no further information to release at this time,” she said.

The Louisiana State Police is investigating the wreck, Vincent said.
