BREAKING: State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Vinton

The Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Sulphur Police Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Vinton Police Department were involved in a pursuit Saturday night following a traffic stop that ultimately led to an officer-involved shooting.
“During the pursuit the suspect crashed near La. 108 and Gum Island Road. and began shooting at officers, at which time they returned fire,” said Kayla Vincent, spokesperson for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
She said one female is in custody and one male is deceased.
The Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office has requested Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations investigate the shooting.
“It is unclear at this time if he was shot by officers or if it is a self-inflicted gun shot wound,” Vincent said.
State Police Trooper Derek Senegal said at least one officer was injured.
LSP Force Investigation Unit, LSP Investigators, and LSP Crime Lab Technicians are working to process this crime scene and gather further information, Senegal said.
“This is an active scene; please utilize alternate routes around the area to allow for the movement of emergency vehicles and investigative personnel,” Senegal said.
