A 15-year-old student at LaGrange High School was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with seven counts of terrorizing by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

CPSO received a call in reference to a threat of a shooting at the school at about 8 p.m. Sunday. Detectives utilized law enforcement resources to find the source of the threats that the student made over Instagram.

At 6:33 a.m., Holly Holland, Calcasieu Parish School Board public information officer, said in a statement that Barbe High School, LaGrange High School, Washington-Marion High School, Oak Park Middle, Oak Park Elementary and Brentwood Elementary were the CPSB schools involved in this incident.

In an update given at 11 a.m., she said they received additional reports of “potential threatening behavior” regarding Henry Heights Elementary and F.K. White Elementary.

CPSO confirmed the student also made threats to Lake Charles Charter Academy.

At about noon on Monday, detectives located the students. The arrest was made after they spoke to him and his guardian. No weapons were located with the juvenile.

At 12:15 p.m., after the arrest, it was stated “there are currently no credible threats against any of our campuses.”

Additional law enforcement officers were present at the schools as a precautionary measure.

Parents were informed of the threats via a voice recording sent out by Holland at 6 a.m. Monday morning. This recording informed them of the threats that were made to the schools overnight.

“Every case is being taken very seriously and is being fully investigated by CPSB and law enforcement. Any person, including students, making threatening comments, writings, or actions towards any of our schools will be met with immediate action by law enforcement and disciplinary action allowed under Calcasieu Parish School Board policy.”

CPSB Superintendent Shannon LaFargue echoed this in a statement, stating CPSB would not allow students to attend class if their safety were at risk.

“We will never open our school doors if we feel a situation is not safe for all involved. We care deeply about our students, faculty, and staff and would never put them in a situation that could potentially be unsafe.”

CPSO said Sheriff Tony Mancuso and LaFargue are in “constant communication” and has instituted a zero tolerance approach for any threat regarding Calcasieu Parish schools.

“Every threat will be investigated and arrests will be made when warranted,” CPSO said in a statement.

LaFargue expressed appreciation for the students who reported the social media threats to school-level and district-level administrators.

“This is always the right thing to do as opposed to sharing it across other social media platforms. This sort of threatening behavior will not be tolerated in our district, and anyone found to be responsible will face full disciplinary action.”

He also thanked CPSO for the handling of the threats.

“We are grateful for the work of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in arresting the person responsible for the series of events that took place last night and today. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff will always be our top priority.”

CPSO Detective Greg Jordan is the lead investigator on the case.
