Sheriff’s race, three Police Jury seats highlight Jeff Davis ballot

The sheriff’s race and challenges for three of the police jury districts are among the highlights of the Saturday, Oct. 14 ballots in Jeff Davis Parish.

Incumbent Sheriff Ivy Woods will take on the challenge of Kyle Miers and Chris Myers. Woods is seeking his fourth term in office.

Of the 13 police jurors seats in the parish, three will be up for grabs along with a justice of the peace, state senator and a local representative of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education members

With District 2 Police Juror John Marceaux not seeking re-election, Ann Bowman, Susette Mouton, Timothy Viator and Chad Woods are vying for the open seat.

Incumbent District 9 Police Juror Curt Guillory is being challenged by David J. Lejeune.

In District 13, incumbent Chad Talbot faces the challenge of former police juror William “Bill” LaBouve and Dennis Vanicor.

A special election is being held for the Justice of the Peace Ward 1 following the resignation of Debbie Abshire Sonnier who was elected to the Lake Arthur council. Those seeking the seat are Andrew Benoit, Kenny Hebert and Pam LeBlanc.

Incumbent District 25 State Senator Mark Abraham faces the challenge of Joshua “Josh” Lewis to retain his seat.

Candidates vying for the District 7 seat on the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) include Cathy S. Banks, Kevin M. Berken and Erick Knezek.

They seek to fill the spot of longtime BESE board member Dr. Holly Boffy who did not seek re-election to the District 4 seat.

Those candidates facing no opposition in the election include Incumbent District 32 State Rep. Dewitt Carrier and District 37 State Rep. Troy Romero

Clerk of Court Rick Arceneaux, Assessor Donald Kratzer and Coroner Donald Deese were the only ones to qualify for their respective posts.

Of the 13 police juror seats in the parish, 10 were re-elected without opposition.

They are Police Juror District 1 Donald Woods; Police Juror District 3 Marcus Peterson; Police Juror District 4 Kori Myers; Police Juror District 5 Tim McKnight;

Police Juror District 6 Melvin “Moe” Adams Jr.; Police Juror District 7 Steve Eastman; Police Juror District 8 Wayne Fruge; Police Juror District 10 Byron Buller; Police Juror District 11 Butch Lafargue and Police Juror District 12 Owen Cormier.

The ballot will also include election of statewide for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasure, agriculture commissioner and insurance commissioner.
