Theresa Woods

Theresa Woods Roy, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023 in a local care center.

She was born in Jonesboro, La. and had been a lifelong resident of Sulphur. Theresa was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church and former member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur where she was an active member of the adult choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a former member of Olivet Baptist Church where she had served as the WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) Director, was a Sunday School teacher, taught church training classes, and also served as the Vacation Bible School Director for many years. Theresa graduated from Sulphur High School and also from McNeese College (now McNeese State University). She taught Special Education at W.T. Henning Elementary School for 23 years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, walking for exercise, traveling, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards and dominoes with friends. Theresa loved learning the lore of Billy The Kid from her father and would often travel to those historical sites. She will be remembered as a woman who devoted her life to her Lord, family and friends. 

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Harold Paul Roy of Sulphur; her children, Nicole Roy Faulk and husband, Scott of Carlyss, and Dean Paul Roy and wife, Juliana of Lubbock, Texas; and a grandson, Jaden Paul Roy of Lubbock. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Jewel Woods; her sister, Delores Crumpler; and an infant brother, Travis Eugene Woods.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 15 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Blocker will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the funeral home.
