Glenda Carole Ash

Glenda Carole Irby Ash, beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away on August 11, 2023, at Sage Oak Assisted Living in Lake Charles, La. She was born on July 20, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Henry Emerson Irby and Inez Irene Dautriel Irby. Glenda’s early years were spent in Newton, Texas, where she developed a love for life’s simple pleasures.
A dedicated scholar, Glenda earned her master’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She went on to contribute significantly to the field, serving as a special education teacher and supervisor for Calcasieu Parish Schools. Her commitment to education touched the lives of many.
Beyond her professional achievements, Glenda embraced the joys of life. Her passion for travel, her love for bridge, and her enchanting piano melodies brought joy to her and those around her. As a member of the Chi Omega sorority, she also shared her wisdom as a personnel advisor at Sam Houston State University for many years.
Glenda’s legacy lives on through her daughter, Jane Baggett of Lake Charles, La., and her son, Jack Robbins (Brandy) of The Woodlands, Texas; her grandchildren, Kara Jane Baggett, Molly Jane Baggett, and Jackson Russell Robbins.
Glenda was predeceased by her parents, her husband George Ash, and her sister Sylvia Gibson.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses, and chefs at Sage Oak Assisted Living, especially her extra special caregiver and friend, Josephine Williams-Ceasar, for their unwavering compassion during Glenda’s final days.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, La. The Rev. John Black will preside over the ceremony, followed by burial in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the commencement of the service at 2 p.m.
