Some well-known local residents will have a chance to show off their culinary skills for a good cause during the 21st annual Communities Against Domestic Abuse Taste N’ Tell.

The fundraiser teams area businessmen, community leaders, elected officials and others with their favorite recipes to help raise money for CADA and the local Billie Sue Thomas Well, a local shelter for victims of domestic abuse. In the past year, CADA has assisted more than 300 victims with various services including shelter, counseling, legal aid, education and job training and other services.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s event because we have a new venue,” CADA Administrative Director and Children’s Advocate Outreach Coordinator Cynthia Perry said.

This year’s event will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the Bayou Rum Distillery and Event Center, 20909 Frontage Road, in Lacassine.

Perry urges the community to come check out the new venue and have a good time while helping to raise money for a good cause.

“This is the major fundraiser for CADA,” Petry said. “This is what keeps us going.”

More than 20 teams are expected to take on the challenge of creating their signature dishes to please the palates of the ticket holders.

The teams will compete for various awards including the People’s Choice honor, which is elected by the public. Categories include appetizers, side dishes and desserts.

“We encourage the teams to cook whatever their specialty is or will get them to win,” Petry said.

Teams are encouraged to choose a theme to decorate their booth and dress accordingly.

The sign-up deadline for cook teams and sponsors is Friday, Sept. 29.

Those in attendance will have an opportunity to sample and vote on the best dishes and participate in a silent and live auction.

The Billie Sue Thomas Well offers 24-hour emergency care for battered women, men and children.

Services include shelter, counseling, support groups, parenting skills, legal advocacy, education and job training. It also assists with temporary restraining orders.

The Taste N’ Tell is held annually in October, which is recognized as Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.
