John Frederick “Freddie” de Launay

John Frederick “Freddie” de Launay, 73, of Lake Charles passed away on June 23, 2023, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles, Freddie was born on September 27, 1949, to Ambrose and Dolores Theriot de Launay. He was
the grandson of William and Henrietta de Launay and Herbert and Carola Theriot.
He was a 1967 graduate of LaGrange High School and attended Landry High School. He studied Law Enforcement at McNeese State University, and graduated in 1979 from the LSU Law Enforcement Institute with a degree in Advanced Law Enforcement and Supervision. Freddie began law enforcement in 1972 and worked until his retirement in 2005 as a Deputy Sheriff with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs office.
Freddie lived a full life. It was full of love for his family, his love of cooking and his love for his church and church family. He enjoyed serving the people of his community in many different ways. Freddie was involved in the ACTS Theater, he helped support Abrahams Tent. His love of music lead him to sing in the choirs of many Catholic churches including, The Diocese of Lake Charles, St. Margaret Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Our Lady of Good Counsel and Our Lady Queen of Heaven.
Those left to cherish Freddie’s memory are his siblings; Herbert C. de Launay, Dolores de Launay Ashworth (Allen), James de Launay (Christine), Stephen de Launay (Gina), Frieda de Launay Ashworth (Paul), Patricia de Launay Rooney, nieces and nephews; Allen Ashworth, David Ashworth (Bridgett), Claire Ashworth Jenkins (Robert), Eric de Launay (Miriam), Anna Ashworth, Laura Ashworth, John Ashworth, Brian Ashworth, Bridget Rooney, Donald Rooney (Amanda), Timothy Rooney (Jing), Father Stephen Rooney, Mary Dolores Rooney, 1 great nephew and 10 great nieces and numerous cousins.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, nephews; Daniel Scott de Launay, Michael Joseph de Launay, Stephen James Ashworth, Paul Frederick Ashworth, and brother-in-law, Tim Rooney.
Visitation for Freddie will be Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, La. 70605. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 3939 Lake St., Lake Charles, La. 70605. Burial will follow services at Highland Memory Gardens.
