LSU reaps awards

LSU junior center fielder Dylan Crews, right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes and third baseman Tommy White were named first-team all-Americans Wednesday by the National College Baseball Writers Association.

Crews is the Southeastern Conference leader in batting average (.434), on-base percentage (.576), runs (89), hits (98), and walks (65). He has increased his reached-base streak to 67 consecutive games, which includes all 63 games this season.

Crews, the SEC Player of the Year, is No. 2 in the nation in on-base percentage (.576), No. 2 in runs scored (89), No. 3 in batting average (.434) and No. 3 in walks (65).

Skenes, a junior, leads the SEC in wins (12), strikeouts (188), earned run average (1.77), innings pitched (107) and opponent batting average (.170) He is ranked No. 2 on LSU’s all-time single-season strikeouts list, trailing only Ben McDonald, who recorded 202 strikeouts in 1989.

Skenes, Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Year and the SEC Pitcher of the Year, is No. 1 in the nation in strikeouts, strikeouts per nine innings (15.81) and WHIP (0.78), and he is No. 2 in the nation in ERA. He is No.3 in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.44), and No. 6 in hits allowed per nine innings (5.47).

White, a sophomore, has 97 RBIs, the fifth-highest single-season total in LSU history. He is No. 2 in the nation in RBIs and No. 3 in RBIs per game (1.67).

White, a first-team all-SEC selection, is No. 1 in the SEC in RBIs, No. 3 in hits (89), No. 3 in total bases (177), No. 4 in doubles (22), No. 4 in batting average (.377), No. 4 in slugging percentage (.750) and No. 6 in home runs (22).

In the portal

Sophomore outfielder Josh Stevenson, who played at St. Thomas More High School, reportedly has entered the NCAA portal.

Used primarily as a defensive specialist and pinch runner, Stevenson recorded one hit and four strikeouts in 10 at-bats in 24 games. He played in 15 games as a freshman. He has appeared in two games since the start of May.
