An arrest has been made in the Sunday night shooting on Lakeshore Drive that left two hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said the shooting began with a “physical confrontation between subjects, leading to firearms being produced and shots being fired.”

He said when officers arrived to the 900 block of Lakeshore Drive, individuals and vehicles were fleeing the scene. He said two people were struck by gunfire during the confrontation and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Both victims have been treated and released,” he said.

Fondel said patrol officers spotted a red Chevrolet truck on Monday that matched the description of a vehicle fleeing the scene.

“The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as 24-year-old William Edward Thomas Jr,” Franklin said. “He was detained and transported to LCPD headquarters.”

He said the vehicle was towed for processing and a firearm was recovered during a subsequent execution of a search warrant.

Thomas is charged with one count of aggravated second-degree battery.

Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $175,000.

Thomas was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center where he remains in custody, Fondel said.

This remains an ongoing and active investigation, he said. Anyone with information is asked to contact lead Detectives Sgt. William Loving or Sgt. Kirt Farquhar by calling 337-491- 1311.
