A suspect in an early morning drive-by shooting in Oakdale has turned himself into the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Kristopher Devaughnte Mitchell, 28, of Oakdale was wanted in connection with the drive-by shooting that occurred Tuesday near the intersection of La. 10 and Hospital Drive in Oakdale.

Mitchell is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault by drive-by shooting.

Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert said his office was asked by the Oakdale Police Department to assist in the investigation of the drive-by shooting.

According to investigators, the victim was traveling east on La. 10 when Mitchell, who was also traveling east, allegedly began firing shots into the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was shot in the upper body, but was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, Hebert said. The victim was later released from the hospital.
