Officials here are proposing a 4 percent increase on water and sewer rates, which equates to $1.50 per month when both accounts are combined.
A 2 percent increase is also being proposed for for trash collection as part of a Consumer Price Index in Republic’s contract with the city.
The proposed rate increases would go into effect on July 1, if approved by the Jennings City Council at its 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22 special meeting.
The city adjusts the service rates annually based on the Consumer Price Index as part of the new fiscal year budget which begins July 1.
Under the measure, residents and commercial establishments inside the city limits would pay a basic rate of $15.67 for the first 2,000 gallons of water used and $2.61 per 1,000 gallons thereafter.
Residents and commercial establishments located outside the city limits would pay $19.79 for residential and $21.91 for commercial users for the first 2,000 gallons. The cost would increase to $3.33 for residential and $3.70 for commercial for the next 1,000 gallons.
Sewer rates within the city would be set at $15.67 for the first 2,000 gallons for residential users and $26.11 for commercial users. The cost would increase to $1.79 per 1,000 gallons thereafter for both residential and commercial consumers.
Residential users living outside the city would pay $20.31 for the first 2,000 gallons with commercial users paying $32.76. The cost would increase to $4.68 per 1,000 gallons thereafter for both residential and commercial users.
Silverwood residents and businesses would see slightly higher bills, with residential rates at $36.61 for the first 2,000 gallons and $61.02 per commercial. The cost would be $3.99 per 1,000 gallons thereafter for both consumers.
Service charges for basic garbage collection would increase, about 41-cents, to $20.68 a month for weekly residential trash pickup. Rates for commercial users would increase to $23.68. Additional charges would be added for additional trash carts.
The garbage rate increase is based on the annual Consumer Price Index adjustments, which relies heavily on fuel costs.
