Jo Calhoun, 89, of DeRidder, La., passed from this life on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Jo graduated from Rosepine High School and became a farm wife and mother. She wanted to become a nurse and decided to enroll as a nursing student at McNeese. With the help and support of her in-laws, she graduated with a Bachelor of science-Nursing in 1965. Jo worked many years as a Registered Nurse in hospitals in Beauregard and Vernon Parishes, and in Texas.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Jo’s dear friends, Barbara Phillips and Jeanette Jean, who were like sisters to her. Also, sincere thanks to loving caregivers Sarah Anderson, Tawana Belton, Chris Satcher, Heart of Hospice, Holly Wisby and Anna Carrero.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Myers of DeRidder, La., Stephanie Tijerina and Albert of Houston, Texas; brother, Jerry Busby of Monroe, La.; sisters, Mary Daemer of DeRidder, La., Charlene Stephens and Roby of Doniphan, Mo., Linda Beer of Bluffton, S.C.; grandchildren, Billy Craig, Carol Calhoun, John Craig, Jennifer Davis, Michael Tijerina; great- grandchildren, Cameron Craig, Reagan Craig, Lane Craig, Courtney Craig and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hall Calhoun; son, Paul David Calhoun; parents, Monroe and Effie Busby; brother, Tommy Busby; sisters, Alene Watkins, Jean Navarre Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 1 p.m. until the time of the Memorial service at 2 p.m. at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. The Rev. Laraine Waughtal will officiate the service. Inurnment will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, La.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder, La., or to any Methodist Children’s Home in La.
Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La.
