Checking off another of his “to do” list, Gary Goff signed defensive lineman Isaiah Jackson Friday morning.

Jackson is a 6-foot-1, 280-pounder who fills another part of the McNeese State roster that needed depth and an upgrade.

Goff called Jackson, “strong as a bear” when talking about the newest Cowboy. Jackson is a transfer from the College of the Sequoias, a junior college in Visalia, Calif. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“Isaiah is exactly what we are looking for inside,” said Goff. “He is a workout guy who is very physical. He is strong and explosive.

“When we finished spring workouts, we thought we were a little thin on the defensive line, especially on the inside. Isaiah will fill that.

“Last season in six games Jackson had 13 tackles and two sacks for 11 yards in loss. Eight of his tackles were solo. Jackson played his high school football Tulare Union in Northern California.Goff said he is hoping or two more as early as this weekend.

“We are about done,” Goff said. “Maybe a couple more pieces but I am really excited about what we have been able to add here lately.”

Earlier in the week McNeese signed tight end Drew Martinez from Colorado State. In the story it was said the Texas high school product missed his senior year due to COVID shutdown.

In fact, Martinez played nine games in 2020 and was named first team All-State or his division. He was also a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year after catching 40 passes or 693 yards and four touchdowns.McNeese players will return to campus or the start or summer school and workouts on June 5.

The women’s basketball team also added a player to the roster Friday. Julia Puente, a 6-2 forward signed with the Cowgirls for next fall. She is a sophomore transfer from Murray State who came to the states from Barcelona, Spain.In 2021-22, Puente averaged 10.7 points in 24 games for Yemeni Maresme B.C.
