Barbara Ann Wentz Jones, age 84, of Lake Charles, La. ended her earthly journey on May 17, 2023 surrounded by family.

Barbara was born towards the end of the Great Depression on September 28, 1938 in Canton, Miss. to Mark and Mabel Wentz. She graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1956 and attended McNeese State University where she was a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi. On Jan. 20, 1962, she married Lafayette M. Jones III “Jerry”.  She lived a full life as an Air Force spouse, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, tireless friend and community supporter.

She loved exotic plants, good books, pricey antiques, fine food, and a cold glass of good quality white wine. Above all else, Barbara loved her family and friends and relished all time spent with her loved ones.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, son, James Timothy Jones, parents, and brother, Mark “Buddy” Wentz III.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Christine Norem and husband Tim, Lafayette “Jay” Jones IV and wife Kimberley; grandchildren, Ashley, Alissa, Montana, Sarah, Jack, and Luke; and great-granddaughter, Mykee Ann.

Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles with the Rev. Weldon Bares officiating. There will be a private burial in Consolata Cemetery where Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband and son.
