Deryl Dale Rougeau

Deryl Dale Rougeau, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023, at his residence in Lake Charles, La. He was born on June 11, 1936, in Mamou, La., to Alexander and Letha Rougeau. He was 86 years old.
Deryl attended T.S. Cooley Elementary School and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1959. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines. After his service, he worked as an Insulator with the local 112 and worked in various local plants.
Deryl was a man of faith and was a member of the Catholic Church. He loved to spend his free time fishing, hunting, and playing penny slots. He was an excellent cook and made the most delicious turtle sauce picante. He was known for his outgoing personality and fun-loving nature. He had a passion for animals, especially dogs, and raised doves, pigeons, and rabbits.
Deryl is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Yvonne Moore Rougeau; his sons, Garrett Shane Rougeau and wife Martha, Rowland Rougeau and wife Velma; his stepson, Anthony Chelette and wife Rochelle; his grandchildren, Laikin Rougeau, Brittany Chelette, Bryan Opolka, Carleigh Opolka and Jason Boone; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Wood and Tessa Chelette; and his sister, Roxanne Spillar (Spencer). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Ann Rougeau Boone; and his parents.
Deryl’s funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Msgr. Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the start of the service, with a rosary being recited at 3 p.m.
Deryl will be remembered for his love of life, his kind spirit, and his devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
