With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved Helen Marie Fontenot Cuvillier, who passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023, at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles, La. Born on Nov. 25, 1951, in Lake Charles, La., Helen was the treasured daughter of Austin James Fontenot and Odelia Marie Foreman Fontenot.
Helen spent her formative years in Lake Charles and attended Marion High School. A warm and caring soul, she dedicated her life to her family, friends, and faith. As a devoted homemaker, Helen had a unique gift for nurturing, supporting, and loving all those who crossed her path.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eugene Cuvillier, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring bond. Helen was a loving and devoted mother to her son, Dwayne O’Quain; her daughter, Shelley Vander and her husband Tate of LeBleu Settlement, La.
Helen’s siblings, Jerry Fontenot of Vinton, La., Betty Dowden of Ragley, La., and Shirley Harris and her husband Fred of Lake Charles, La., will forever cherish the precious memories they shared with their sister.
Blessed with five grandchildren, Loa and Laydon O’Quain, Carson and Chaz Castille and T.J. Vander, Helen was the epitome of a loving and doting grandmother. Her presence in their lives will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
Helen’s unwavering faith guided her throughout her life. Her compassion, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be remembered as a shining light in the lives of many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Nathan Long will serve as Celebrant. A private inurnment will take place at a later date in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until leaving in procession to the church at 9:30 a.m.
